OUR 2025 STAFF

Brandon Zahorsky

Brandon, originally from Kingston NY, started his dance journey back in 2006 when he was 19. He started teaching in 2009 and has taught at dance events around the country and internationally He is an amazing choreographer who has created so many fun dances. Brandon’s crazy popular dance “Gives Me Shivers” has been danced all over the world. Ed Sheeran learned and danced it as well. He is great at breaking down the steps and keeping it fun for all levels of dancers. Brandon joined us in OC in 2013 and has been teaching and DJing each year since. He currently lives in FL with his wife and two daughters, works full time and is teaching at The Barn in Sanford.

Dancin' Dean

Dean started teaching in 1992. His home is in Upstate NY but he spends a lot of time traveling to dance events around the country. He is also a choreographer. His teaching style is energetic and fun for all levels. Dean joined us in OC in 2015 and with Debbie Gouge, brought Dancin’ Dean Sneakers & more - a great selection of dance shoes & boots.

Joanne Brady

Joanne, started teaching in 1993. When she isn’t traveling around the world teaching, she and her husband Bob, call Delaware home. In her years of teaching, she has choreographed many dances. In addition to traveling at events, she teaches several classes in DE and hosts the Diamond State Line Dance Event – a 2 day fundraising dance event every March. Joanne sneaked into OC a couple years ago and joined us for bit. I’m happy to announce to all that she will be joining us this year.

Lee Jenkins

Lee started line dancing in 1993. When he returned to dance after a short break while attending college, he continued line dancing, added country couples, and was introduced to west coast swing. He fell in love with its musicality and versatility. He started teaching with Sandy in the early 2000’s. That eventually lead to his own classes and west coast swing competition. Lee is originally from Frederick MD but is currently living in Washington DC.

Sandy Garrish

Sandy started dancing in 1988, with basic 2-step, in a ballroom studio. In 1989, after dancing several nights a week at Latela’s, a country bar in Jessup, MD, she started country couples’ competition. She danced in competitions around the country for 5 years. Sandy’s teaching journey started in 1991, teaching country couples. She added line dancing in 1992 and loved being one of a few at the time to teach lines and couples – dancing the lead & follow parts. She has taught all over the central MD area. Sandy grew up and lived in the counties around Baltimore until she moved to Ocean City MD in 2000. That expanded her teaching to the eastern shore but she continued to travel to the western side of the bay to teach every week. Sandy is currently recovering from a stroke she had January 24, 2024. After a year, she has just started back to DJing her Wednesday dance. She’s looking for new ways to “teach” until she is back on her feet.

OC HALLOWEEN DANCE WEEKEND HISTORY

Sandy held the first OC Halloween Dance Weekend in 2006, in conjunction with the Light the Night walk for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. For 6 years, OCHDW was only a dance on Friday and Saturday nights, since our team, Sandy's Strollers, participated in the walk on Saturday evenings before our Halloween dance. We raised a lot of funds to help with research to find cures for blood cancer in those 6 years. The walk was canceled in 2012 and in 2013, Sandy taught line, 2step and west coast workshops. Sandy met Brandon Zahorsky in 2013 and invited him to join her to teach the line dance workshops, while she taught 2-step and west coast swing. In 2015, after an issue with the Grand, the event moved to the American Legion and Dancin' Dean joined in the line dance workshops. The event didn't miss a year during covid, just had a limited number. That year there was no couples workshops but happily, they will be back this year. The event moved back to the Grand Hotel last year. We've had campfires on the beach, full moon dancing on the boards, ocean plunges, Thursday group dinners with line dancing in the tiki bar sand and Saturday night after event dancing in the night club at Seacrets. We have a few additions for this 20th year - A pre-event dance on Thursday at the Grand, a couple extra workshops on Friday, maybe a bit of dancing at Sunfest and I'm looking forward to Joanne Brady joining us this year! It's always been a great time dancing at the beach.

This Years Charity
Children's Roads To Recovery

We’ll have 50/50 raffles, a spare change jar and a raffle for various items (gift cards, free pass for next year, etc)

at the dance.

Check out the CRTR website to see the stories and the amazing ways they’ve been helping families with sick children since 1991. They help with expenses NOT covered by insurance. The things you don't even think of. Their fundraising events were impacted by the shutdown so every bit helps them help others. If you can’t make it to OC this year, but you would like to help them help others, you can make a donation on their website. Or, you can give your donation to me and I’ll include it in our group donation. This is a locally managed, volunteer 503c organization. There are no cooperate paychecks here. Their focus is helping families who are focused on their kids. Please consider donating.
